NWPL Super 4: Alexander, Adoo sure of Confluence Queens’ title credentials

A the top four teams in the Nigeria Women Premier League, NWPL get set for end of the season Super 4 in Lagos, pundits are already tipping the likes of Rivers Angels and defending champions Bayelsa Queens as favorites to clinch the trophy.

But Confluence Queens’ duo of Florence Alexander and Yina Adoo have said their team are not coming to Lagos for jamboree.

Confluence Queens finished top of Group D joining Rivers, Bayelsa and Adamawa Queens for the Super 4 showdown.

Alexander who played in all matches for Confluence Queens this season told ONWARD NEWS 24 in Lokoja on Tuesday shortly before the team depart for Lagos that her team have been fired up to shock everyone with their performance to win the coveted trophy.

“We are aware of the tag (as underdogs) in the Super 4 and that is somehow good for us, we wont be under any pressure but I believe we have all it takes to win the Super 4.

“Its our first time at the Super 4 and we are happy about that, but we want to create history by winning the first time we are qualifying for the Super 4 because we have quality young players and experienced coaches that can do that and by the grace of God we would be crowned the champions,” the former Sunshine Queens’ defender concluded.

Yina Adoo who echoed her team mate’s stand on what to expect at the Lagos’ football fiesta said that preparation has been excellent ahead of the Super 4.

The club’s top scorer in the regular season added that the team was ready to take on any opponent.

“Our preparation has been very great and we are ready to take on any opponent, we will respect them but we wont fear them as you know that’s our slogan.

We are going with so much confidence and we are going for nothing but to become champions.”

The NWPL Super will kickoff on Friday in Lagos with first two knockout games.
Winners of the matches on Friday will battle for league trophy while losers will be slugging it out for the third place match.
