The Special Adviser to the Kwara State Governor on Sports and Youth Development, Mallam Attahiru Ibrahim has commended the initiative of the maiden edition of Kwara Inter-Secondary Schools Volleyball Championship.

The former Patigi volleyball player described the championship as a watershed which will help discover more talents in the State.

“This is indeed a great development. I believe that the competition will afford us the opportunity to discover more talents that will do the State and the Country proud in the nearest future” said the Philanthropist.

In the same vein, the management of La Planet Sports Academia has donated a giant trophies to the cause of the championship.

The trophies, according to the Tournament Initiator will be savoured by the first and second positions team in the tournament

Appreciating them, the Initiator of the Programme who is also the Media Officer of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Dare Kuti thanked SA Sports for his financial contributions and the management of the La Planet Sport Academia for supporting the initiative with trophies.

“We are really appreciative of their gesture and for identifying with this project. We believe it’s a common goal to see that we provide opportunity for our youths- and their support will go along way towards achieving success in the programme”.

A total number of Eight teams will be rolling out their aces for the championship billed for Wednesday, June 8th to 10th at the Indoor of the Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin.

Honourable Abdulwahab Abdulmajeed Temidire popularly known as ‘Aburo Gomina’ has applauded Kwara State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrahman for changing the narratives of sports development in the state after two years in office.

Temidire made the disclosure at the Kwara State Stadium Complex on Sunday during a match organised to mark the two years anniversary of the Governor.

According to the APC Stalwart,he noted that it is important to celebrate the anniversary of a sports loving Governor in a peculiar way hence the match between AA Victory Football Club and Kwara United.

“We are celebrating the two years of unprecedented achievements of the Governor in terms of Sports development, education, road Infrastructure and human capacity building” he said.

While describing the Governor as the ‘beautiful one that has been giving birth to’ he urged the him to consolidate on his past achievements having done what seemed impossible before his emergence.

He outlined the UBEC programme where more than 300 Schools will be upgraded and reconstructed as part of many other initiatives coming from the Governor in his bid to improve the education sector in the state and better the lives of the citizens.

“My message to Kwarans is that they should to continue to give support to the Governor and have confidence in him- and i can assure them they will not be disappointed” he concluded.

Kwara State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has passed a vote of confidence on Kumbi Titiloye led Kwara United board.

The Governor made the disclosure on Tuesday when he paid a visit to the ongoing construction and renovation at the Ilorin Stadium.

Mallam Abdulrazaq said his administration will support Kwara United and ensure they get the necessary encouragement to compete with already established teams in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

He said, “So far so good, we need to encourage the management of Kwara United and the team to reach an enviable height. Kumbi Titiloye and his board members are doing a great job by bringing glory to the state via football.

“My administration is ready to give maximum support to Kwara United and I am optimistic the team will be among the best teams in the country.”

Meanwhile, the chairman of Kwara United, Kumbi Titiloye commended the governor for his unflinching support to the development of Kwara United.

He said the vote of confidence calls for more work from the management and players

Titiloye said, “It means we need to double our efforts because with the little resources of Kwara State if his Excellency will show love to us by supporting us financially, we need to double our efforts not just collecting money and relaxing hereby making his Excellency proud”.

Commenting on the victories recorded by Kwara United at home, Kumbi Titiloye said:”We make sure the boys are relaxed and focused; we let them realise that they are the product we are selling and we support them to do well”.

He urged fans of Kwara United to pray for the success of the team.

He said, “Pray for us, support us and we will do our best to make sure people are happy with our results home and abroad”.

Kwara United will be facing MFM in Lagos this coming Sunday in their next NPFL game.

The state Secretary of the association, Olayinka Owolewa, recalled in a statement on Tuesday that the Governor mentioned as part of his plans for 2021 fiscal year rehabilitation of sporting facilities when he presented a budget proposal of N123,091,307,468 to the House of Assembly.

The Kwara SWAN Scribe appealed to the Governor to do things differently from his successors who had many times promised to fix these facilities at the state Stadium Complex, without action.

The assocation also appealed to Governor AbdulRazaq to consider the construction of new facilities at the senatorial district level so that the development of Sports can spread across the state.

“We want to thank his Excellency for what he has done, especially on the revival of the state Sports Festival after its 15 years absence.

“We are also aware that work has commenced at a location inside the state stadium complex for some new Squash Courts, this is highly commendable.

“We believe that Sport is capable of fighting social vices and youth restiveness if properly harnessed, through the provision of sporting facilities to engage them.

“We are also aware of your support to the state Football club, Kwara United and your effort in the completion of the state Football House” Owolewa said.

The association challenged everyone saddled with the responsibility of Sports in the state to properly guide the Governor in ensuring sporting facilities witnessed a turnaround in the year 2021.

The body assured the Governor of its support all times to help spread in his effort geared toward restoring the state’s lost glories in sports.

About three lives have been reportedly dead while two others escaped as Oko- Erin bridged collapsed as a result of heavy downpour in the Ilorin metropolis on Saturday.

Speaking to newsmen at the scene of the event, an eyes witness, Chinedu Emmanuel confirmed the incident and describes it a monumental lost.

According to him, ‘they were five in the car, two of them manage to come out as the driver struggled to navigate amid heavy erosion that blocked the road as it eventually pushed the car into the stream.’

“What really happened was that at about 10pm in the night, I noticed that some Okada riders were turning back as they approached the bridge.

“I discovered that the bridge has been covered with heavy water. I ran outside trying to stop vehicles coming. Two of the vehicles reversed, but this very Guy maybe he didn’t know what was happening until he gets to the middle of the bridge,” he said.

Continuing, “I discovered that the erosion has forcefully taken his motor and he was struggling to maneuver through.’

“Two people managed to ran out of the car, but the driver could not make it and he fell into the water together with the car,” Chinedu affirmed.

Also speaking at the scene, the Special Adviser to the Kwara State Governor on community intervention, Kayode Oyin Subar said the incendent has been brought before the Governor and he has directed all relevant agencies on intervention to swings into action.

“We got the wind of this incident very early this morning and immediately we swing into action as you can see we are here and we have called all relevant agencies on intervention.

“As an interventionist, I called the Kwara State Road Maintenance Agency (KWATMA) and other relevant agencies of Government to come and assist “

“When we got here, we noticed that what happened has to do with our indecent practice of dumping refuse indiscriminately forgetting that when you block water channels, water will find its ways.

“The incidence is unfortunate and we have reported it to Governor AbdulRasaq AbdulRahaman and he has also responded immediately.

“I can assure you that all agencies of government will swing into action immediately. We just appeal to the people to move away from here so as to avert further casualties, ” the SA said.

In the same vein, the Alangua of Oko-Erin, Alh. Abdulmumini Jimoh called on the Kwara State Government to come to the rescue of the people of Oko-Erin in respect of the bridge.

“We plead to the Governor of Kwara State, Mall. AbdulRasaq AbdulRaman to please help us at Oko-Erin. We severally complained about the danger pose by the bridge to the ministry of environment all this while, but all our plead fell on deaf ear,” Alangua said.
