Super Eagles forward, Sadiq Umar scored an important goal for Almeria in their 2-2 SmartBank LaLiga II final day clash at Leganes to secured his side’s league title.

The result has also helped Almeria gained promotion back to the Spanish top flight after missing out last season in the playoff.

The match played at the Estadio de Municipal De Burtaque was explosive from the get go as both sides find back of the next inside opening 15 minutes.

Borja Carces gave Leganes the lead with just nine minutes into the game before Almeria equalized via Rodrygo Ely six minutes after.

Umar’s team mate in the Super Eagles, Kenneth Omeruo restored Leganes’ lead with from a goal mouth melee with three minutes to end the first half.

But Almeria who remained resolute with what they intend to achieve even the score with eighth minutes into restart from Sadiq Umar’ sublime finish.

Almeria held on to ward off late pressure from their hosts to secure the point which was enough to win the second division league title and returned to LaLiga after went down in 2014.

Umar will be among the notable names to be remembered for the historic feat as his 18 goals and nine assists helped Almeria win the SmartBank league.

Omeruo, whose team, Leganes played against Sadiq Umar’s Almeria in an epic LaLiga Segunda clash that ended 2-1 in favour of Leganes on Thursday said Umar possessed impeccable qualities of the best center forward.

“I really don’t want to talk about how many goals I will score before the end of the season, I just want to remain focus, and be a team player and assist the team to return back to the Elite League.

“I think team performance is more important than individual performance. I’m not thinking about the highest goal scorer, I’m thinking about how Almeria can return to the Elite League, but if evetually i win the highest goal scorer, glory be to God but my first target is how the team could return to the Elite League, Umar concluded.

The two young prospects, Obi Martins and Samuel Obaleh will be joining the Spanish Segunda club, Leganes in January.

Omeruo,the former Chelsea defender confirmed this on Thursday at the Catholic Church playing Ground, Gwarimpa, Abuja, where scouting for talented young players is currently ongoing.

The 19 year old Obi Martins who was dropped in the Ladan Bosso led Flying Eagles team is. defensive midflielder  and will be hoping to join Leganes’ first team after signing a professional contract.

Martins was formerly a player of John Utaka academy before teaming up with Kenneth Omeruo Academy. Samuel Obaleh put pen to paper on a youth contract as he’s hoping to convince the coaches with his performance to seal a pro deal.

Looking back to over a decade of his football career, an elated Omeruo was full of praise to the Almighty and Coach Abimbola Samuel, who discovered him at the same pitch, eleven years ago adding that he is happy to see his dream of many years coming to reality.

He however reiterated his commitment to help other young players actualize their dreams of playing football to higher level.

Speaking to Brila FM on the Pits Bull, the former Everton striker stated that staying with relegated Leganes will not be good for their quality and for the Super Eagles.

“Chidozie Awaziem have been link with a move to Besiktas that is my former club i haven’t heard anything last week but it was a bit stronger last two weeks but it will happen.

“Omeruo too there was a link for him to return to the Premiership, it will be a good move definitely.

“I won’t appreciate them staying in the lower League because they have so much quality and being a member of the Super Eagles we need their experience in the topflight football we need them to up their game when they play for the Super Eagles.

Leganes were confirmed relegated following a 2-2 draw with Laliga champions Real Madrid at the Butarque with Celta Vigo picking maximum point against relegated Espanyol.
