Kogi State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has paraded six suspected criminals for various offences.

Parading the Suspects in Lokoja, the State Commandant, Suleiman Ibrahim Mafara said they were arrested following intelligence report and surveillance by the officers of the Command at various locations.

The Commandant said the first suspect, Shaibu Dauda, aged 28 years from Edeha in Kotonkarfe local Government Area of the State was arrested for phone theft and house breaking while Murtala Lawale, 40years, from Zamfara State, Seidu Ibrahim 35 years from Zamfara State and Turukul Lawal, 27 years from Katsina State were arrested for Transformer Vandalism.

According to the NSCDC Boss, one Yakubu Abdulmumin, aged 20 years and Muhammed Jalaludeen, aged 20 years were also arrested in Anyigba for operating an unlicensed filling station and breaking the seal placed on the Stations by the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR).

He appealed to the public to continue to partner with the NSCDC through intelligence gathering and sharing to rid the State of crime and criminal elements.

He added that all the suspects will be charged to court.

In another development, Commandant Suleiman Ibrahim Mafara has presented and decorated an officer of the Command, Francis Ruth Oluwakemi who won one Gold, two Silver and One Bronze in the just concluded One Service, One Medal Games, OSOM Games in Abuja organized for paramilitary agencies.

He congratulated the officer for good representation and restated the support of the Command in her future endeavors.

Speaking, Francis Ruth Oluwakemi expressed appreciation to the Command for the support as well as creating a platform for her to represent the Corps promising her continued loyalty to the NSCDC.

No fewer than 100 Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), personnel’s on Friday passed out of the course six arms handling training exercise in Kogi State.

Speaking at the passing out parade, the Commandant General of NSCDC Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi said his mission is to transform the agency for good adding that, continuous training and re-training of officers remains the hallmark of efficiency, and professionalism.

The NSCDC DG who was represented by the Director Legal Service Umar Mohammed charged his men to be civil and professional in the discharged of their duties.

In his address, the Kogi State Commandant of NSCDC Suleiman Mafara while congratulating the graduating officers said the successes in various operations recorded in the state will not have been possible without the support of the Commandant General.

“The Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, Phd, mni, approved our request to train this set of gallant officers and gave his full support in every way possible.
This is also in addition to the recruitment of more personnel to beef up the strength of the Corps so as to enhance its capacity to confront diverse security challenges facing the nation, counter terrorism, protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure”.

He restate the loyalty and commitment of Officers and Men of the Command to the CG’s resolve to rid the entire country of insecurity and all forms of criminality.

” The subordination of the Corps to civil authority is a cherished tradition that is one of the cornerstones of democratic existence and has, in addition, helped promote our professionalism in all parts of the Country. It is a tradition that must be sustained and strengthened.

“The Command therefore appeals to the government and good people of Kogi State to assist the Corps in whatever way possible to enhance optimal service delivery” he said.

Representative of Governor Bello Alhaji Yakubu Suleiman, permanent secretary, Local Government service commission said the present administration remains committed to fighting insecurity in the state.

On their part, the Commander, NNS Lugard Lokoja, Commodore KJ Odubanjo, Commander Army record Major General O.W Ali who was represented by S.O Nwafor, both lauded the existing synergy between all security agency in the state.

They admonished the graduating officers to be courageous in defending their father land from the enemies of the nation.

The Cooperative Investment & Credit Society of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Kogi State Command, on Tuesday gave 10 Pleasure cars, essential goods and commodities on loans, to some interested members of the cooperative.

The items were handed over to the beneficiaries during the Commissioning ceremony on Tuesday at NSCDC office, Kogi State Command.

In his remarks, Mr Monday Janagwu, the President of the cooperative, thanked members for their support, cooperation, endurance and understanding.

He noted that the current executive of the cooperative under his leadership, had been able to achieve three out of their seven-point agenda within the last 105 days of assumption of office.

”Today, 10 Automobile pleasure cars are here to be given to the interested cooperators on loan; more are coming by the grace of God.

”We promised granting of Conventional and Emergency loans to our cooperators in needs, and reactivation of some of the COOPS abandoned projects, neglected schemes and recovering of all cooperative money”, he said.

Janagwu stressed that they had reactivated the neglected scheme on Entitlement to Retirees of the NSCDC Corps and effective members of the COOPS, who had served meritoriously with impacts.

He added that other highly essential goods and commodities such as rice, oils, television, refrigerator among others, were also provided for cooperators on loans, to ease the Christmas and end of the year celebrations.

Speaking, the NSCDC Kogi State Commandant, Commandant Peter Maigari, who commissioned the items, said he was impressed with the achievements of the cooperative’s executive within their few months in office.

Maigari, who doubles as the Patron of the cooperative, urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items and not to sell them.

The commandant further enjoined the cooperative members and executive to always abide by the government’s regulations and guidelines on obtaining loans.

One of the beneficiaries who got a Toyota Corolla car, Barr. Eleojo Onu, the OC Legal Kogi NSCDC, said he was very happy to be part of the beneficiaries, and thanked the commandant and the cooperative president for the gesture.

The Kogi Government through the Ministry of Justice has established the State Office of the Public Defender and Citizens’ Right Commission (PDCRC), to provide legal aid and other related services free of charge to citizens who may not be able to afford the services of lawyers.

The Director General of PDCRC, Barr. Abdullahi Zakari, disclosed this when he led a team of lawyers from the Commission in an advocacy visit to some stakeholders in the state.

The stakeholders visited included: the State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Peter Maigari; State Commissioner of Police, CP Ede Ekpeji; Nigerian Correctional Service, Kogi Command, CC. Abubakar Gurim; and the Chairman, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Barr. Sam Owoyomi.

Zakari also added that the State Government had employed 150 lawyers for adequate manpower to enhance the speedy administration of criminal justice law across the state.

Zakari noted that the bill establishing the Commission was signed into law by His Excellency, Gov. Yahaya Bello, on June, 3, 2019, saying its vision is to ensure that justice sector in the state was reformed and better for it with speedy dispensation of justice.

He added that the Commission has power to investigate and make recommendations, prison decongestion, and also ensure the protection of the fundamental human rights of residents of the state.

He commended the state’s governor for his commitment and political will in ensuring justice for all citizens, while extolling the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the State, Mr Sani Mohammed SAN, for the critical transformation he has brought to the sector most n the last four years.

The director general stressed that the purpose of the visit was to introduce the Commission and her activities to the relevant stakeholders with the view to seek their cooperation and synergy to bridge the gaps in the administration of justice in the state.

He, therefore, called for effective partnership from all the relevant stakeholders in terms of support and awareness to ensure that the residents of the state have direct access to justice irrespective of tribes, religion or affiliation.

”Providing access to justice is a core responsibility of any government globally, but we will need the support and active collaboration of the relevant stakeholders,” Zakari said.

He emphasized that the enactment of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJl), the employment of more Law Officers and the establishment of PDCRC was to demonstrate His Excellency, Gov. Yahaya Bello’s commitment to the Justice Sector reforms, and commened the State’s Attorney General for driving the reforms.

In their separate responses, all the heads of the various stakeholders visited, commended the State Government and the Ministry of Justice for the gesture, saying it would make the residents of the state to have access to justice especially the downtrodden.

The stakeholders futher assured the state government of their readiness to collaborate and synergise with the Commission in their various capacities in achieving its goals.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ede Ekpeji, however, enjoined the commission to also ensure that perpetual criminals are prosecuted and put out of circulation, for the safety of the society.
