Offa Grammar School got their campaign in the maiden Olofa Football Tournament & Scouting programme for secondary schools off in a flying start after they flogged Olalomi Comprehensive High School 3-0.

The first game on MatchDay 2 lived up to the hype as Offa Grammar School football team ran riot putting three goals past a helpless Olalomi Comprehensive High School to go top of Group C with a plus two goals difference.

Unique International School Ikirun are placed second in Group C after they pipped Government Day Secondary School of Ilorin by a lone goal.

Group D looks like a ‘Group of Death’ as the four teams have taken a point each in their opening matches.

In the contest between two former missionary owned schools Anglican Comprehensive College and Ansarul Deen College, both teams had to share the spoils after the game ended 1-1 at the Pitch 2 of the Offa Stadium.

Last fixture for MatchDay 2 ended in a drab draw after Iludun-Oro Comprehensive High School and ECWA College Igbaja failed to find the goal in regulation and added time.

Action continues on Friday as Government Secondary School Ilorin who walked over Comprehensive High School Ajase-Ipo, will hope to go six point on Group A if they beat St Marks Secondary School Offa in a 9:am fixture billed for Offa Stadium main pitch.

Comprehensive High School Ajase-Ipo who lost their opening group game will host Moremi High School Offa at 9:am at the Offa Stadium 2nd pitch.

It will be a contest of two brothers as
Ansarul Islam Secondary School Offa will host Ansarul Islam Secondary School Ikotun-Ile in the third fixtures of MatchDay 3.

Ira Grammar School Ira could go six points in Group B if they beat Government Secondary School Offa in a top of the table clash.

The championship tagged Offa Cup is hosted in honour of Olofa of Offa, His Royal Majesty, Oba Mufutau Muhammed Oloyede Gbadamosi (Okikiola Ajagungbade I, Esuwoye II), and proudly sponsored by Gene6 Beginners Football Academy.

A total of 16 secondary schools will battle for pride in the maiden edition of the Olofa Cup after organizers of the championship released the fixtures after the conclusion of the draws on Thursday 3rd of March, 2022 at Olofa Palace in Offa, Kwara state.

The 16 days invitational tourney billed for Offa Local Government Area, Kwara State is scheduled to kickoff from March 9 to 24.

The draws, which had in attendance the Olofa of Offa, His Royal Majesty, Oba Mufutau Muhammed Oloyede Gbadamosi (Okikiola Ajagungbade I, Esuwoye II), saw the participating teams been drawn into a four groups format of A, B, C and D, while the two top teams from each group will faceoff in the quarter-finals.

Four teams from the last eight will advance to the semis, while winners from both fixtures will meet in the grand finale. The two losing semi-finalists will meet in the third-place match to determine which team takes home the bronze medal prize.

Moremi High School, Offa, Marks Secondary School, Offa, Government Secondary School, Ilorin and Comprehensive High School, Ajase Ipo make up Group A.

Group B will witness a meeting for two Ansarul Islam schools, as Ansarul Islam Secondary School, Offa and Ansarul Islam College. Ikotun-Ile will square things up with Ira Grammar School, Ira and Government Secondary School, Offa.

Olalomi Comprehensive College, Offa, Offa Grammar School, Offa, Government Day Secondary School, Ilorin and Unique International School, Ikirun are in Group C.

The last group is made up of Iludun-Oro Comprehensive High School, Oro and three former missionary schools, Anglican Comprehensive College, Offa, ECWA Secondary School, Igbaja and Ansarul-deen College, Offa.

Opening fixture of the Olofa Cup is an Offa Derby as Moremi High School will trade tackles with St Marks Secondary School for the first 3points of the championship.

Gene6 Beginners Football Academy, the proud sponsor of Olofa Cup and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) jointly posited: “We are delighted that the programme for the tournament is going as planned. The teams have known their groupings as well as the fixtures, next is for the matches to kickoff on Wednesday next week.

“I want to urge all the teams to play by the rules and also win their matches fairly as the LOC will not hesitate to sanction any team found to have used mercenaries during the tourney.”

The championship which had earlier received the royal blessings of the Olofa of Offa, is aimed at discovering talented footballers and promote the game of soccer at the grassroot level.
