LaLiga II: Sadiq shoots Almeria to promotion playoff spots with 20th league goal

Nigerian striker, Sadiq Umar increased his LaLiga II goal tally to 20 on Monday as he helped Almeria secure a position in the playoff for LaLiga Santander promotion following a nervy 2-1 win over Logrones.

The former AS Roma forward opened the score sheet for the hosts with second minutes into the game finishing up a lay up pass from Manu Morlanes.

Juan Brandariz doubled the lead for Almeria in the 27th minutes as he tucked in a cross from Jose Lazo.

Sadiq could have put the game to rest with the third goal but the Kaduna born lanky forward missed from the spot.

Logrones tried to stage a comeback in the second half when Leonardo Ruiz halved the lead with about 20 minutes to end the game but Almeria held on to their lead which put them in the promotion playoff position with a game to end the regular season.

Sadiq Umar who will be missing out on Super Eagles’ squad due to club engagement has now scored 22 goals in all competitions for Almeria.

He had earlier had six league goals to his name while at Partizan Belgrade before joining the Spanish side later in the season putting him on 28 goals scored this season.

Sadiq still have a chance to secure a dream promotion to the Spanish top flight as his side will be in for a playoffs.
