Abdulrazak’s 365 days in office, good signal to sports development in Kwara — SWAN

The Kwara chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), has described Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazak’s 365 days in office as a good signal to sports development in the State.

Olayinka Owolewa, the state Secretary of the association said this on Sunday in Ilorin, in a congratulatory message as the Governor marked his one year in office.

SWAN said the Governor has demonstrated the true character of a good leader, who is honestly ready to serve the people.

The body while thanking the Governor for raising the bar of sports development in the state, commended him for reviving the state sports festival 15 years after it was last held.

The statement also mentioned the rehabilitation of the Adewole baseball court – the first on the African continent – after decades of neglect and organised various capacity trainings and enlightenment programmes for the youth in the state.

The association hailed the Governor for prompt payment of salaries of Kwara United FC at this torrid period when his counterparts are using COVID-19 as excuse to avoid paying their teams.

“We received the news and confirmation of the May salary of the team with delight when some other clubs in the country are complaining about backlog of salaries owed them,” the statement said.

The association urged the management of the team and the players to be ready to pay the governor and their fans back with good performances when hostilities resumed after the sudden break occasioned by the effect of COVID-19 on the global community.

“He has demonstrated his victory at the 2019 polls was not a fluke but the wish of the people because of his campaign promises and he has not let us down yet.

“The Governor has shown he loves sports and he demonstrated it by prioritising the payment of Kwara United salaries at this critical time.

“As stakeholders we are happy with this development and we urge him to extend this to other sports so that sports can thrive again in the state” the statement said.

The association did not forget the huge support it has received from Governor AbdulRazaq’s led administration in this short period.

”We want to pledge our support to your administration and we promise to give you every required support for sports to return to its lost glory in our dear state,” the statement added.
