Confluence Queens’ Christopher tags Bayelsa best Super 4 team

Confluence Queens forward, Precious Christopher, has said equivocally that the best team of the 2019 Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) Super 4 are former champions and second runners-up, Bayelsa Queens.

The Restoration Girls whiplashed the NWPL newcomers, Adamawa Queens, with four unreplied goals in the third place match, weekend, at the Agege Stadium in Lagos.

Christopher whose penalty loss in the final against eventual winners, Rivers Angels could have been the turning point for her side said the Yenagoa side was impressive and more tactical in their penalty shootout loss to the Port Harcourt side.

“No, Rivers Angels are not the best side of the 2018/2019 Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) Super 4, the likes of Bayelsa Queens are the best team of the championship, we (Confluence Queens) are equally a better side but compared with the game they (Bayelsa Queens) played against Rivers Angels I give them kudos as the best.

“Rivers Angels are not pushovers, they are a good side, playing against them in the final was not really easy,” said the former Ibom Angels of Uyo top striker.

Christopher said her side felt fullfilled despite the fact that they came quite short of achieving their season’s dream.

“I am very happy despite the loss to Rivers Angels in the final of 2018/2019 NWPL Super 4, I still thank God for helping us to finish second place, it’s a huge achievement. Sixteen teams played in the NWPL abridged league.

“It was not my wish to miss the penalty somehow I was disappointed as my desire was to score the penalty to restore parity with Rivers Angels.

“I still give thanks to God, world class players too do miss penalty kicks. Penalty is a game of luck, so missing it is also a part of the game.

“Yes, I wished I could be a league champion perhaps if I had scored the penalty maybe we could have gone into penalty shootout after 90 minutes and I feel my team would have won.

“Aside that, we were still fullfilled and we will aspire to be at the Super 4 again next year and by God’s grace we shall be there and sure to lift the trophy,” said Christopher.

Confluence Queens finished the campaign as first runners-up after they lost 0-1 to Rivers Angels in the final. The Lokoja side pocketed Two Millions Naira for their first-ever spirited performance at the annual football showpiece.
