Covid-19: Table Water producers hail Kwara Government

…says no plan to increase price

The Association of Table Water Producers of Nigeria, Kwara State chapter, on Wednesday commended
the Kwara State Government’s effort toward measures puts in place in curtailing the spread of Covid-19 pandemic in the state.

The Chairman of the state association, Alhaji Yahaya Kayode stated this while briefing newsmen in Ilorin, the state capital.

According to him, ‘the measures puts in place so far by the government toward the containment of the spread of coronavirus in Kwara State is laudable.’

“Yes, the government has risen to it’s responsibility of protecting lives and properties in the state having placed stringent restriction method which could debar easy transmition of the virus.

“Though the lockdown and it’s subsequently ease come along with lots of challenges, but I think the government has done well,” he said.

Yahaya added that Pure Water business activities during the period lied low as there was a total shortfall in the demand of the products.

“As you can see, there is no any business in Nigeria that are not affected. Most of the materials we use in the production of table water have increased in prices.

“The materials have doubled in price, and to transfer that on the consumer would not be right for us.”

Reacting to the likelihood of increase in the prices of table water in the state, he said the association would sought for a way out within itself in stead of transfering the pain on their teaming consumers.

“No. It would not go down well with our consumers if we decided to increase the prices. It would not be okay for us and we are not going to hike the price.”

Speaking in the same vein, the Chairman of Hi-Merit Table Water, Deacon Timothew Agboola also lauded the inputs of the Kwara State Goverment toward curtaling of the scourge.

“The efforts of the Kwara State Governmment are commendable both in terms of the palliatives given and measures put in place. I think they have lived above the expectations.

“I want to urge the people of the state to strictly adhere to all the measures placed by the government. It is all a matter of time.”

He further appeal to the Kwara State Government come to the aid of table water producers in the state by giving out a micro credits facilities to cushion their busineses plight.

“We are just producing at present to keep the business afloat and in order to meet our customer’s demand. Government should assist with soft loan to our members,” he concluded.
