Independence Day: Naija Ratels FC Donates Food, Cash Gifts To IDPs In Makurdi

Nigeria Women Football League side, Naija Ratels FC under the initiative ‘The impact project’ donated food, set of Jerseys, footballs and cash gifts to young boys and girls at the IDP camp in Makurdi.

The club’s President Barrister Paul Edeh who bagged the UN SDG Award recently noted that the donations were made to help the vulnerable youths who are struck by the reality of the Coronavirus pandemic and also aimed at cushioning the hardship being faced by the IDPs as Nigeria celebrate her 60th anniversary.

The Abuja based legal luminary said the Federal Government and State Government of Benue must work with the private sector “to accomplish the Sustainable Development Goals with a focus on eradicating extreme hunger and poverty, encourage child education as well as improve school enrolment in Nigeria.”

The UN SDG Ambassador who was accompanied by players and officials of Naija Ratels FC, spent valuable time with the IDPs, reassuring of hope for a better Nigeria.

“In the spirit of patriotism and the love we have for our dear country, we thought we should contribute our widow’s mite to the internally displaced people here in Makurdi.’ He said

“Unfortunately, they had to leave their homes and comfort to find an abode here because of disputes over land for grazing and farming which escalated into shocking violence forcing thousands to flee their homes.

“As Nigeria attains her 60th anniversary, it is the responsibility of the Government to provide basic amenities to it’s citizens.

“Thousands have found refuge with relatives or other people in communities unaffected by the conflict. Many are surviving thanks only to the host communities, who share their houses, food and other resources. In exchange, the displaced people often work with and for them and this the Government must try and improve on the welfare of these people by providing more for them. He concluded.
