Is Kwara United ready for NPFL challenge

The biggest news in Kwara State sports broke out last week when the Kwara United confirmed their return to the elite league in Nigeria Football replacing Delta Force who have seven points in six games.

After the difficult victory over Gombe United last weekend at the Kwara State Stadium, the fans are satisfied with the character of the players but hope they can improve on the performances.

The players gearing up and focused on the Nigeria National League, NNL but in a blink of an eye find themselves competing in the NPFL which was not planned for and that is the concern of the lovers of the club despite appreciating the decision of the management to return to the league.

Considering the team’s preparation before the commencement of the season where they participated in various preseason tournaments and had the luxury of playing against quality oppositions which they fared well but with doubt as many areas still need to be corrected.

Some of the areas noticed is the inability of the team to score goals as evident at the Ogunjobi Gold Cup and Gov Okowa’s Cup even though they won the former which might prove a hindrance for them maintaining their new NPFL status considering the goal difference, position and points dropped off the team they are replacing.

In previous years, Kwara United started the season on a good form and still find themselves relegating to the lower division but this time the slot of a struggling team was bought which indicate an unnecessary pressure on the team by management.

Obviously, the team was not built to compete in the elite league but in the National league – so the necessity of piling this sort of pressure on the pressure from playing in the NPFL is not accepted and indicate the unreadiness of the side for the task ahead.

The Coach Abdullahi Biffo led side will have up the ante in terms of performance, commitment and mental strength to withstand what awaits them in the top flight.
