Kogi Speaker to train 200 youths in Vocational Skills

Over 200 youths will be trained on various vocational skills to be sponsored by the Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Prince Matthew Kolawole in collaboration with the National Directorate of Employment, NDE.

The Speaker – a member representing Kabba/Bunu State Constituency – who disclosed this through his Chief Press Secretary, Femi Olugbemi confirmed that the program will be the second edition of the Speaker’s initiative to teach the youths how to catch fish, not giving them fish to eat alone.

According to him, it is in line with the APC/ Speaker’s campaign promises to make the empowerment of the youths and women folks a priority that 200 youths has been selected through various platforms to participate in the forthcoming program that will be flagged off on the 31st October, 2019 in Kabba.

He said 155 youths benefited from the first edition of the vocational training scheme in which all beneficiaries were given the tools of the vocations they were trained in over a period of six months with certificate of NDE that qualified them to be employable in relevant organizations they chose to seek employment.

Femi Olugbemi said the Speaker as an outstanding representative that is committed to the overall development of not only his constituency but the entire state made the selection of the participants of the program cuts across the entire state.

He said aside the vocational training many youths have also been gainfully employed in government agencies in both the state and national level through the benevolence of Rt Hon Prince Matthew Kolawole.

He noted that the Speaker is also working with key stakeholders in the educational sector in organising inter secondary school Quiz and Debate Competition of which the third edition will commence later this month, while the market men, women and widows empowerment will come up early November.

The Education Support Scheme and scholarship program will however come up early next year.

He said with the successful flag off of the Iyah – Kakun – Obele road and Kabba – Olle – Iluke road in the constituency by Governor Yahaya Bello yesterday will mark a new beginning in the infrastructural development of the area, stressing that the Kabba township roads, especially the collapsing bridges at Kano road, Fashagba road and St Joseph road is being giving the necessary attention.

Femi Olugbemi commended the people of the constituency for the continuous support and cooperation they have given to the Speaker, urging them to continue in the light.

The program is scheduled to hold tomorrow 31st October, 2019 at the Kabba Development Union (KDU) Skills Acquisition Centre, Kabba, Kogi State by 10am.
