New Abia Warriors coach wants NFF to stop appointing club coaches to national teams

Former Super Eagles assistant coach, Imama Amapakabo has advised the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF not to employ coaches attached to club sides into national team set up.

Amapakabo who made the call while featuring as special guest on Family United by Football, FUBF WhatsApp platform on Saturday noted that the idea is multi-tasking and bring about distraction for the coaches.

The newly appointed Head Coach of Abia Warriors said that national teams handlers should be fully engaged by the. Federation.

“I think its tasking because at all times, the coaches have to multi-task. Its a big challenge when you have to shuttle between club and country, at one point you’re leading a team, the other point you’re assisting.

“Haven to chance your modus operandi is a big challenge. I think it will be nice if the coaches of national teams get full employment by the federation (NFF) and the clubs also get their own coaches, that way I think it will be okay. That will be good to separate the responsibility of the coach from the national teams and of course the club sides,” he said.

The former JIB Rocks goalkeeper who was part of Nigeria’s team to Canada 89 U20 FIFA World Cup added that the Coronavirus pandemic has hampered the game but advised clubs to start getting used to playing the game without their fans.

“The Covid19 has brought a lot of challenges, it has come to be with us for a while we have to learn to play games without the fans. We’ve had time to go to neutral ground to play and have also played closed door matches, but I think since TV is going to be with us, that will make it more interesting.
